Amey and Mace bosses to spearhead campaign to tackle gender inequality in construction

Two industry leaders have been appointed to spearhead a campaign set up to tackle gender inequality in construction.

Amey chief executive Amanda Fisher and Mace director of corporate strategy Mandy Willis have been appointed co-chairs of The REBuild Project.

The campaign has been launched to challenge outdated industry cultures and shift the dial for women working in construction.

After a successful launch on International Women’s Day 2021, the appointment of two women industry leaders as co-chairs represents an important milestone for the campaign, which aims to directly impact the lives of women working in construction by highlighting ‘the 3 Rs’:

• REpresentation – increasing the % of women joining the industry at all levels
• REcognition – improving the % of women holding board-level and senior positions
• REmuneration – addressing pay differentials and closing the gender pay gap

As two experienced and well-respected industry bosses, Fisher and Willis will provide The REbuild Project with strategic direction, lead a Board comprising industry volunteers from across the construction industry, and act as media spokespeople to raise the profile of this innovative and much-needed campaign.

Fisher said: “I’ve been committed to championing diversity and equality across large, complex organisations throughout my career, and I look forward to supporting a successful campaign that delivers meaningful and long-lasting change for women working in construction.”

Willis added: “Becoming co-chair of The REBuild Project is an opportunity to join forces with some of the most innovative and inspiring people working in construction today. I’m excited to be leading this ambitious campaign and working to improve outcomes for women working across all levels of the industry.”

REbuild is calling for the industry to meet some key targets including women holding 30% of executive board directorships by 2025, women taking up 50% of entry level positions in construction by 2025, women representing 50% of positions in executive teams by 2030 and for businesses to reduce the gender pay gap to zero by 2035.
