The latest progress on Crossrail’s four remaining west London stations has been revealed.
Ealing Broadway’s new facilities are now open, while work is also progressing well at Southall, Hayes & Harlington and West Drayton.
According to the project’s latest stations newsletter, these three stations are “really taking shape”.
The upgrades are part of Network Rail’s Crossrail package of work to upgrade stations to the east and west of the central London section of the Elizabeth line.
Work at Acton Main Line station and Hanwell station has been completed in recent months.
With construction of passenger facilities complete and all safety and assurance checks undertaken, Ealing Broadway’s upgraded facilities including lifts and a new ticket hall opened to customers on 27 May.
A glass frontage makes the entrance brighter with a longer gate line replacing the previously cramped entrance. The station also benefits from improved lighting, signage, customer information screens, ticket vending machines and ticket gates. The platforms also feature new passenger shelters.
The full transformation of this important interchange for TfL Rail, London Underground and Great Western Railway customers will be complete later in the summer as work continues at the front of the station and in the back-office areas.
Construction of the mezzanine flooring for the new station building at Hayes & Harlington has been completed and work has started to install the cladding and glazing.
Cladding of lift shafts and motor rooms is also underway and installation of the lift motor room equipment is finished. Installation of mechanical and electrical equipment inside the new station building is ongoing and work has started the new drainage on Station Approach, which must be completed before the new station building can be opened for passenger use.
Installation of the ceiling inside the new station building has begun and work is continuing on the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment. The concourse floor of the new station building extension has been tiled and the lift motor rooms and lift shafts have been cladded.
The installation of the new passenger lift on the north side of the station has continued, as well as the roof replacement above platform 4/5.
The new station building has been being prepared for the cladding to be installed. In recent weeks, the glazing has been installed and the installation of the soffit has been completed, which allows the canopy to be added to the building.
In addition to this, floor tiles, mechanical and electrical equipment, cabling and trunking on the new footbridge are also being installed. The installation of the new passenger lifts for platforms 1, 2/3 and 4 is underway along with the installation of the suspended ceiling inside the new station building.
Work scheduled for the stations this month includes mechanical and electrical equipment installation at Southall, continuation of cladding and glazing at Hayes & Harlington and further cladding and mechanical and electrical installation work at West Drayton.
