Linguistic Sociolinguistic and Multilingual Comprehension Research Group

Linguistic, Sociolinguistic and Multilingual Comprehension Research Group

The main research focus is the development and application of modern tools of translation techniques and approaches, theories of discourse analyses, the role and implications of sociolinguistic manners in the multiethnic culture, linguistic properties of L1 and L2, imaging and computing of L2 acquisition.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has three main national languages, Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian. And we have dozens of minority languages. Europe has three main language groups – Slavic (South, West and East Slavic), Romance and Germanic. Dozens of European languages spring up from those three languages. With a lot of languages being related, either in historical development and geographical location, or in social factors, there are clear linguistic synergies, which can be developed to make the language as a tool to unite the people regardless of their culture and ethnicity.

We can investigate linguistic or speech communities linguistic properties to identify language similarities and differences between the vernacular, register and dialects. Notwithstanding the diversity and cultural/socio and economic differences between L1 and L2, the language and linguistic behavior patterns of linguistic community will provide indicators regarding the linguistic future of those speakers.

Linguistic and socio-cultural diversity is a challenge for the Balkan region and the rest of the world and especially for Bosnia and Herzegovina with rewarding challenges. The vision of this group is to sustain and keep this diversity effectively so that the linguists and EFL/ESL teachers have to address developments that have become priority components in today's globalized world and can no longer be neglected.
