One-Pot One-Poetry

“A poem begins with a lump in the throat” Robert Frost.

The tradition of sharing your word and food is an ancient Abrahamic tradition. Through this, you share your words of joy and sorrow, of hope and fear, of elation and desolation, and through this, your joys increase, and sorrows diminish. We therefore invited all our students and professors to “One-Pot One-Poetry” program to share their poetic experience as well as their foods and drinks with others. The program started with the organizer, prof. Murat Öner’s speech where he shared the ancient story of selfless sharing and noble generosity. Professor then read the American Poet Naomi Shihab Nye’s “My Father and the Fig Tree.” Then, the poetic feast continued with participants’ recitals. Some poems brought joy and laughter and some poems lumps in the throat and tears.

The program continued with an Abrahamic potluck feast as we cherished the blessing of our friendship.
